About the Giovanni’s Room bookstore collection
Giovanni’s Room is the country’s longest continually running LGBTQ+ and feminist bookstore, with roots in Philadelphia’s queer community dating back to 1973. Today, the landmark bookstore continues as part of Philadelphia AIDS Thrift at Giovanni’s Room, a nonprofit business that turns donated books, gifts, and other finds into funding for local HIV/AIDS service organizations.
To date, Philly AIDS Thrift has donated more than $5 million to programs focused on HIV prevention, outreach, case management, research, education, and services for people living with HIV/AIDS. Its grant program has supported more than 50 organizations across the Delaware Valley, helping fund essential community work through everyday shopping.
